Discussions with HS2's archaeological consultants

PART OF THE HS2 HISTORIC IMPACT ASSESSMENT PROJECT

Cotswold Archaeology logo The professional archaeology service Cotswold Archaeology was appointed by HS2 Limited to research the impact that the HS2 line would have on the historic environment.

This proved a fruitful area for the society's HS2 project team. Our local knowledge of Buckinghamshire was of value to Cotswold Archaeology, particularly the research and surveys along the proposed route done by our members during 2010-12. The two sides had several useful formal meetings during 2013, as well as various informal contacts.

The society was thus able to put the likely impacts of the line on the record, and to argue for public involvement in any rescue work for historic sites and buildings, for funding for the dissemination of knowledge gained and for the archiving and display of archaeological finds.

The results of Cotswold Archaeology's research and the society's input should be reflected in the HS2 Environmental Statement, which was published in November 2013.
