The
Watermills of Buckinghamshire: A 1930s account by Stanley Freese
with original photographs
Stanley Freese's description of watermills has now been
published and is available in this exciting new publication. Freese,
a well known Buckinghamshire character, cycled around Buckinghamshire
in the 1930s interviewing both wind and watermillers and describing
and photographing their mills. By 1939 he had a manuscript ready
for publishing but this was prevented by the outbreak of war. The
manuscript was eventually deposited in the County Museum and has
been consulted by many researchers since then. The Buckinghamshire
Archaeological Society has now printed the watermills section of
his study, together with 55 of his photographs and introductory material
including a biography by James Venn.
